“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
Do you ever look at your life and look at what is in front of you and think, “how far can I go?” It can be so easy to play the odds, fear the improbable, negotiate the dreams. I often find myself explaining to God all the ways that I fall short. Instead of affirming my inadequacy, Jesus asks me:
“What do you have?”
“Only five loaves and two fish,” I shamefully explain.
“Just see what I can do.”
Jesus does not ask us to play the odds, He is inviting us to a life of faith where He takes our small offering and multiples it beyond our wildest hopes.
Father, please help us focus on your abundant blessings and your consistent pattern of using something small to do something great. We give you the small gifts and abilities we have and pray that you multiply them to do great works for your Kingdom. Amen.
