Verse: “To the one who conquers...” (see also Rev 2:7, 11, 17, 26, 3:5, 12, 21)
Insight: The Revelation to John from Jesus to the 7 churches reveals 7 promises to believers who “conquer” (or who overcome), those promises belonging even to the likes of the Philadelphian church, which is described as having “little power”! (3:8) How about that? Ever felt like you had “little power”? Well, God still expects you to overcome! How is that, when we can hardly pick ourselves up off the floor sometimes? We are given a small secret to Philadelphia’s conquering Christianity in that same verse, when Jesus says, “...yet you have kept My Word, and have not denied My name.” There is such power in HIS Word and in HIS name! Aren’t you glad that the strength in the struggle is not ours, but the Lord’s, and how that strength is perfected in our weaknesses?! (2 Cor 12:9) We should always be very careful about taking the credit for a victory, when, in truth, our best contribution to the whole affair has been our “little power”!
Prayer: Father, your Word says that I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me! (Phil 4:13) It also says that, “this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith!” (1 John 5:4), and that faith comes by hearing your word (Rom 10:17) Please help me to find strength in keeping your word, and being faithful to your beautiful name, so that I can give you the glory for my victories. Thank you, Lord.
