Verse: Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.
Insight: In early 14th century England a standard was established for precious metals, and each item forged was marked with a hallmark after being verified to be pure and authentic. God has commanded us to love one another, always as Jesus first loved us, not by words alone, but with love in action. Love in action should be the hallmark of authenticity on our lives as Christians so all would know that the God of love is truly at work in us.
Prayer: Lord, thank you that Jesus’ love was much more than words, and that he showed us so deep a love in action at the Cross. As we put love into action, let that be the hallmark of your authentic work in us in a world full of counterfeit. Help us to be more aware of those in need around us as we continue to look for ways to serve. Lead us and guide us. In your name, Amen.
