“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!”
Although I do not believe that God is cursing the American dream of owning a nice home, I do believe He is giving us a stern warning to be aware of where our trust is resting. It is so easy to get on the train of, “If I just… save enough money, develop a strong resume, have plenty of friends and family, then maybe I can ‘escape the clutches of ruin.’” God invites us into a life of freedom where we do not need to devote all of our energy into being “safe.” Truthfully, we can never prepare enough to be fully “safe” in this fallen world; however, one thing is for certain, we are always safest walking in line with God’s beautiful plan for our lives.
Father, we do not want to trust in the ‘things’ of this world, help us to keep our eyes on you. Instead of living in fear, help us to live in freedom knowing that we are living the best possible life by following your will.
