“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
A friend recently reminded me that things that are hard, can still be good. Perseverance usually isn’t needed from us when things are going really smooth in our lives. Perseverance is defined as “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition”. Perseverance is usually not easy and can require a great deal of effort from us. The good news is, we are not alone. Jesus modeled pushing onward for us all throughout scripture. Even at the cross, when God the Father had to turn his back to the sin that his Son took on for you and I, Jesus had joy set before him. He knew the reward of being with us forever was worth his current pain. You can do this. Whatever the trial is, you can do this because you are never alone.
Lord, thank you for helping us in every circumstance. You give us strength when we call to you. You love us and want to help us. Help us to continue to persevere, even when it seems we have nothing left. You provide all that we need. We love you, Amen.
