Verse: “The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?”
Insight: Paul is encouraging the believers in Corinth to depart from the world’s way and follow Jesus. Instead of taking your brother or sister in Christ to a court of law, Paul is saying to try and settle your “case” against each other with grace, mercy, and forgiveness. We don’t have to justify ourselves before man; to do so is living in the defeat of man’s fall. Jesus justifies us, taking on our sin and guilt before God, allowing us to live in his victory, claiming it as our own.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for coming and showing us a better way. Because of your sacrifice, we are holy and blameless before God. We humbly acknowledge your intercession and provision of our place in Heaven. Give us the peace of mind and heart to settle conflicts with the power of the cross, taking on your nature in your victory, that the world see a different way; the only way, the truth and the light of life in Jesus’ name, amen.
