Deuteronomy 26:2

put some of the first produce from each crop you harvest into a basket and bring it to the designated place of worship—the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored.

The principle of tithing and giving back to God a first portion of what he blesses us with was foundational in the Old Testament. God blessed his people with land and the fruit from that land. As a result the people would give back to God as a way of saying thank you and to live in the promise of his continued blessing. We don’t typically work the land and produce crops in this day but God is still blessing us with that we have - we need to remember to thank him and to live in his blessing.

God, Thank you for all you have blessed me with - a family, a job, a house, food in my fridge, and so much. Help me to live in generosity. Help me to give back to you with a cheerful heart. Help me to not take for granted what you have blessed me with. As I live in obedience to your instruction to tithe back to your church I pray that you would continue to bless my family as you have promised in your word. Amen
