Romans 13:1-4

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good.

Insight: Unless submitting to authority causes us to become disobedient to God, we must obey. In this tumultuous season of politics, it is easier to get into character bashing, not only to our leaders, but also to people who support them. Our sovereign God knows best and it is not for us to go against His will. We must pray for our leaders and ask God to give them the wisdom to rule and lead in a way that pleases Him.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for allowing our country to have rules, stability, and the freedom to worship you. For the sake of unbelievers, please help me lead by example by being a person that brings unity, shares your hope, and submits to and prays for my earthly authority. May I never be a cause of division. In the midst of challenging times, help me be an encourager and your witness. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
