Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Joshua fell face down to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?"
Insight: The question we want to ask ourselves is not "Is God on my side?" but "Am I on God's side?" We need to take the humble position of asking God what HIS agenda is & what HIS desires are, instead of what we so often do, which is list out our plans & desires and then ask Him to get on board with us and bless them. Like Joshua, we need a posture of humility before God, reminding ourselves that we are HIS servant, not the other way around!
Prayer: Father God, help me in humility to seek Your will and Your ways above all else. Let me know when I am beginning to walk in arrogance, assuming You are on "my side". You are the only one who is always holy and always good - transform me so that my desires and plans begin to line up more and more with Yours.
