Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Insight: Three times God told Joshua to be strong and courageous.  The third time, he elaborated further by telling him specifically not to be terrified or discouraged.  I don't know this for sure, but I like to think that this was because God knew Joshua WAS terrified and discouraged.  With the great leader Moses being dead & a huge job to accomplish (entering into the Promised Land), Joshua was probably shaking in his boots, like most of us would be.  However, when God commanded Joshua to take courage and be strong, he didn't give him a pep talk about how great Joshua was or remind him how all his years of training as Moses' assistant had prepared him for this moment.  Instead, God reminded Joshua that HE Himself would be with him.  Because Joshua's confidence wasn't to be in his own qualifications but in the very presence of God.

Prayer: Father, thank you that the reason I can be strong and courageous is because YOU are with me.  No matter what I face, no matter how big or how daunting, if you are with me I know I can move forward with confidence.  Your presence is everything, help me to hide myself in you every day.
