My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
INSIGHT: I think that David gives us an an honest look into what trusting God looks like. Trusting the Lord doesn't mean that we no longer feel pain, anguish, or confusion... nor does it mean that somehow the hurt will always disappear when we declare our trust. Rather, trusting God is about remembering who He is even when the anguish persists. When life is hard, it's okay to hurt. God is still God, even in our pain.
PRAYER: Lord, would you give us a deeper trust in You, particularly in our pain. As with David, we pray that You'd use our painful seasons to point us toward Yourself and remind us who You are. Amen.
