Mark 7:31-35

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sighsaid to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.

Insight: You can’t read that story without being reminded of two things: 1. God has the power to heal us. 2. Jesus had a great sense of humor. Think about it, He didn’t have to give the guy a wet-willy or spit on his tongue but he did. Imagine if you were standing there or even more so if it was you! Remember this today, God both cares and can heal you and it may make you laugh.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for laughter and for the reminder today that you are able to heal the broken areas of my body, heart, mind, and spirit. Do that today I pray. In your name, Amen.
