Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?
18 When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”
Insight - The early church was trying to find its way as it related to whom and how the Gospel would be shared with. Peter in this passage is bringing clarity! The Holy Spirit was going to be the power needed and the gift and privilege of receiving salvation was for both Jew and Gentile! This was a game changer. I love how Peter declares ‘who am I to stand in God’s way’..
Prayer - Jesus, I am so thankful that you enlarged the scope and reach of the Gospel so that it extended beyond your people of original covenant (Jews) and that the Holy Spirit is available to both Jews and Gentiles. I am so glad that the early church was arrows out! Jesus, I love you. Amen..
