Luke 8:19-21

Verse(s): Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him because of the crowd. And he was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you.” But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

Insight: At first look, this passage might appear to be very harsh towards family. The reality is that Jesus is teaching us that, as believers, we are part of the family of God. We are the body, He is the head. Some family members might not like that you have chosen to be a Christ follower. Some might even turn away from you. However, the family of God will be with us for eternity. No matter where our travels take you, when we connect with other believers, we feel that we are with family because the Spirit of God connects us.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord for adopting us as your children, for allowing us to be part of your family. May the fruit of your Spirit be demonstrated towards my family even when they don’t understand my calling and commitment to you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
