John 19:30

"When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."

Insight: During his greatest moment of suffering, while hanging on the cross, Jesus said he was thirsty and he was given a sponge of sour wine to drink. His persecutors had just done their worst. His last words meant that the worst was over; the worst was "finished." For you and I, thats good news. Persecution and suffering finished. Prophesy and law fulfilled. The sin of the world taken away. The storm is over. The worst is in the past. God is satisfied. Satan is defeated. Grace is poured out over all. There is good news in the finishing work of Christ.

Prayer: Jesus, there is nothing more we can do or add to your good work. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for taking our punishment, and our suffering. Thank you for taking our sin away. Thank you for defeating the enemy. Thank you that you endured the worst, and that our best days are ahead of us. Thank you for giving us good news and hope. Thank you for loving us. Amen
