"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
Insight: Jesus reminds his followers that they are "in the world, but not of the world," and just like us, they're struggling with these two lifestyles:
- In Christ, there is peace.
- In the world, there is tribulation.
But even before entering Gethsemane, before enduring Calvary, and before emptying the tomb, Jesus says that he has already overcome the world. Victory in Christ is assured. And, since we are in Christ, we too can overcome the world.
Prayer: Jesus, whatever hardships come our way, or whatever hardships we are currently facing, give us peace in knowing you. You promise us peace in your victory. We will take heart. We will be courageous. We will cheer up. We will overcome.
