Ephesians 6:1-3

Children, what you should do in union with the Lord, is obey your parents, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" this is the first commandment that embodies a promise "so that it may go well with you, and you may live long in the Land."

Insight: Jewish Rabbi tradition states that there are three partners influencing a person; God, one's mother and one's father.  When people honor their parents, they also honor God.  Respect for one's parents is foundational to Judaism.  This was the culture that Jesus walked in, and the Apostle Peter exhorted us to "walk in His steps".

Prayer:  Blessed are You Lord our God who has given us the responsibility to honor our parents.  Lord I thank You for giving us the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct us into a right attitude of love, acceptance and forgiveness toward our parents.  Please give us the grace to become parents ourselves, worthy of honor.  In Jesus Name.
