In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.
In the Bible, the “sea” is often a reference to chaos, trouble, or turmoil. Jonah flees from God and is thrown into the sea. The disciples experienced a stormy sea; meanwhile, Jesus walked to them on the water, and then calmed the sea. Truthfully, apart from God, our lives are in chaos. Jesus, however, came to us in the midst of our chaos to show us that he has power over all our troubles and turmoil. But in heaven, there is a sea of glass: free from chaos, with perfect order. There is deep calmness, and bright clarity. Heaven is complete purity.
God, you have the ability to calm the storms around us and to calm the storms inside us. Jesus, whether there is chaos around us or in us, I pray for you to come into our lives. I pray we follow you and experience the life you have for us, that is full of calmness, clarity, and purity. Jesus, calm our storms. Amen.
