1 Corinthians 8:1-3

“Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that “We all possess knowledge.” But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know. But whoever loves God is known by God.”

Insight: The basis for Paul’s words in this chapter deal with the difference in acting because of our knowledge or acting because of our love. Paul is encouraging us to respond towards others out of love for them and God, not because we know something might be right or wrong. We live in a time where people come from various cultures and backgrounds. What might not be a struggle for us can be a huge temptation for others. Live not just in regard to your own salvation, but with others in mind.

Prayer: Father help me to live a life that cares about others. I will not always know what others have gone through, but I can listen to Your Spirit for guidance, so my life will cause others to come closer to You instead of pushing them away. Thank you for helping my light to shine to all that are around me.
