Mark 3:16-19

These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),  Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Insight: The one guy in history who had the ability to do the work of the ministry alone chose to build a team. That first team was called the disciples or Apostles. They were not an all-star cast of character, but rather a group of mostly later teens and early 20-somethings who ended up turning the world upside-down. I like that Jesus gave some of the guys nicknames like James and John who he called “sons of thunder “ and Peter who he nicknamed “Rock”. God was showing humanity that he could use anyone who was willing. That includes you and me.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for using ordinary people. People like me and my friends to share your love and message of hope with the world. Use me today like you used them. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
