Acts 24:27

“After two years went by this way, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And because Felix wanted to gain favor with the Jewish people, he left Paul in prison.”

Insight: Went by this way. What was this way? It was Paul being called in to talk (while in prison) until the conversation would make Felix uncomfortable and with hopes that Paul would bribe him.

What did Paul do wrong? Was he being punished by God? Neither. He was being faithful to what God had asked of him. He lived out two words that are critical to our faith development: faith and consistency.

The truth is, sometimes things don’t go our way. The promises that God has places in our hearts seem to distant to see. But slow motion is still motion and any step towards Jesus is significant. Our job is to be obedient with patience and consistency.

Prayer Jesus, I thank you that you have our best interest in mind. But, I also realize that being obedient is sometimes uncomfortable and requires sacrifice on our part. Lord, help me to be patient and consistent in my faith, knowing that you never leave me alone or give me anything that I can’t handle. In Jesus name, amen.
