Luke 17:1-3

Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come.  It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.  So watch yourselves.

Insight: It can be easy for us to think of sin as a personal or individual thing each of us deals or struggles with, but Jesus talks seriously about sin being an interpersonal thing. While there is grace and forgiveness when we sin and then repent from our sin, Jesus is very clear about how seriously God takes causing someone else to sin. With this in mind, we must not only be conscious of the outcomes of our own words and actions as it pertains to ourselves, but we must think communally -- about how our words and actions will affect those around us.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to live by your Spirit today. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit in me. Give me a sensitive spirit and an obedient heart, that my words and actions would honor you and be an encouragement to those around me.
