“If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.”
Insight: These words of Jesus serve as a reminder that although we may have the right priorities it can be easy to have them in the wrong order. He is not actually advocating that we hate our family, or anyone for that matter, but is exaggerating to make his point that as a Christ follower he should come first in our lives, and when we have that right all of our other relationships will benefit as a result.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to keep the most important things in my life in the right order, starting with my relationship with you. In Jesus’ name Amen.
